Interview with Dr. John Cary, CTO, Co-Founder, Tech-X Corporation

Serving as the Chairperson of Tech-X Corporation’s Advisory Board has been an honour.  After recent Advisory Board meetings held December 12, 2024, it was my great pleasure to interview Tech-X Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Dr. John Cary.

The interview can be heard below:

An ultra-brief synopsis of the interview questions and answers follows with a time stamp, so one can find or re-find particular insights John offers.

Question 1 (00:00): What is it that Tech-X does?

John explains how Tech-X does computational plasma physics, and they have been pushing the edges of this interesting science.

Question 2 (01:05): Why is this useful?

Tech-X has applied their computational software solutions to particle accelerators, to fusion plasma, and to low temperature plasmas.  For example, in the areas of plasma processing for the production of computer chips, and for applying coatings to objects.

Question 3 (02:25): Is there a direction that is exciting for Tech-X now?

Simulating and modelling thrusters for keeping satellites in orbit is one exciting area, as is photonics, where now Tech-X software can be used to model waveguides on computer chips.

Question 4 (05:45): What was the route taken from University through to Co-Founding Tech-X?

Due to difficulties with obtaining funding for University research, it turns out that the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program provided a means to fund research ….. and start a company.
